Indian Marbles

Marble is a metamorphic rock formed from the crystallization of limestone. It is chiefly composed of calcite (a crystalline form of calcium carbonate, CaCO3). It is usually heavily veined and shows lots of grains. Since ancient times, marble has been used for sculptures. Marble’s low refractive index allows light to penetrate upto several millimetres depth before being scattered out, thereby resulting in the characteristic "waxy" look which gives "life" to marble sculptures of the human body. Its pleasing colours, attractive patterns and designs make it a favourite construction and decorative material.
